Healthy Eating During The Holidays

As moms and entrepreneurs we do so much. Running a home and a home base business can leave you exhausted on
regular days. Now we’re adding the holiday stress to our already too busy schedules.
And of course our healthy eating goes right out the window with the munching, snacking, get togethers and holiday parties…I’m gaining weight as I type!
So remember to take care of yourself mom; your business and your family depend on you. You can’t afford to go through the holidays dragging, tired, exhausted or worse yet sick. Here are some tips for eating healthy during the holidays.
Drink plenty of water: Staying hydrated helps you to focus better, it curves the appetite (for some people), and it keeps you energized. I’m told that many people mistake thirst for hunger. I know I often do and when I reach for something to snack on I have to stop and ask myself, “Am I hungry or thirsty?” Add lemon or a little peppermint oil to spice it up.
Don’t forget to exercise: I know you don’t have time. Neither do I, but on the 3 days a week that I do get out I’m amazed at how good I feel. Exercising releases endorphins that regulates your blood sugar, relieves stress and make you feel happier! If you’re like me exercise doesn’t “feel” like exercise if I’m not on a machine and sweating. However, I’ve learned not to discount the power of a walk.
Don’t drink unless you’re eating: Eat first. Food slows down the absorption of alcohol into your bloodstream. And if you like the sweet, girlie drinks just know that they are loaded with sugar and calories. A margarita has 67.63 in 1 oz! A frozen daiquiri has 53.94 in 1 oz! Do your homework. Personally, I haven’t had one of these in years just because of the sugar content alone! Oh, how I miss a good virgin daiquiri! But the next day I am as lethargic as someone who had a entire bottle of rum. Forget about it.
Keep eating: Sounds weird but to keep the famished, low-blood sugar monster away you must feed him regularly; or else he comes out and makes you (me) eat everything in sight. Eat every couple of hours and keep it light. I keep mini carrots and raisins mixed with sunflower seeds on hand to keep my monster away…but sometimes he eats all of the raisins and seeds and then starts on the left-over pizza and anything else…sigh.
I found this great site that will help you keep count of your holiday calories (if you’re into that type of thing).
Moms,we must take care of ourselves. People are counting on us.
Do you have a tip for healthy eating during the holidays?
