Google Analytics vs WordPress Stats

Google Analytics for WordPress

So I was talking with a friend about my blog stats and he asked me how was I keeping track of them. I told him I just use my WordPress stats. It’s quick and easy to read. I can get in and out as I check my email.

Now I don’t know if he was jealous or what, but he said I can’t rely on WP stats. He said he believes that WP actually fudges the numbers for you. WHAT?! I’m looking at 1200 unique visitors for the month of March! It’s not fake…is it? Entrepreneur Moms  love my blog…right?

Well, last week I tried something new and gave my readers an opportunity to brag and leave a backlink and had little response. But I know that a lot of entrepreneur moms aren’t big into internet marketing and backlinks, although they should be. And many women don’t feel comfortable bragging. Besides most of the moms that read my blog are new entrepreneurs and aren’t that comfortable putting themselves out there by commenting.

I know this from personal experience and because when I talk about motherhood, husbands or sex the comments are free flowing. Women are more comfortable talking about those things.

Contrast that with my blog series on business planning, where-according to my WP stats I have an average of 30 people a day clicking on to read it-there is minimal commenting.  I’ve even received a few ‘thank you’ emails on the business planning blog series. So I know you are out there…even if you’re not commenting much here.

So the question is HOW many of you are out there?

Well, I went to read my Google Analytics account-which was established months ago-and it’s NOT tracking data! What the freak? I had a guy to do it for me and…maybe he didn’t do it correctly….maybe he said he was just setting it up, not installing it…maybe I paid him to rip me off….I don’t know! But now I have to figure this techy stuff out.

I hate techy stuff!!

So off to YouTube for some Google Analytics tutorials. I love YouTube!!

I view several but quickly discover that most of the “step by step” videos miss an important step: WHERE DO I INSTALL THE TRACKING CODE ON MY BLOG?

Finally, after 2 days of searching (which really equals a total of 1 hour) I found this one by Jessie Luna.  I hope it helps you in figuring out how to install Google Analytics on your blog.

Or do you have it on yourblog already? Maybe I’m The Slow One….

Leave a comment of “yes I do” or “no I don’t”, so I can know if I’m the only Slow Crazy in the bunch. Better yet…don’t. This would be a good time to keep comment quiet. I don’t need to discover that I’m a Slow Crazy.

Thanks!

Great info. It’s tough to figure out all this analytics stuff while juggling a dozen different things. Glad the video was useful! I enjoy making them.

Once I have it installed and tracking then I’ll have to figure out what it all means. I hope you have some videos on that!

HI. Great post. Many thanks. I’ve been wanting to do this for my brand spankin’ new blog. the video totally rocked. And I’ve just gone through the steps and hope to see some metrics very soon!

Good Steve, I hope it works out for you. I’m still trying to recover from my “new” knowledge.

Hello, I use both, analytics is very complete but its great flaw is that it gives me the URL of my visitors.
On the contrary “WordPress Stats” does. thanks
