Cougar Mom-A Little Advice

Cougar moms, interesting subject! Interesting species of women. A cougar mom is described as an older

Ok, ok! So it's a leopard!
woman who is into (and sometimes will hunt down) younger guys. They are unabashedly flirtatious and dress to compete with young teenage girls. Many teens are ashamed, embarrassed and angry at their moms who flirt with their teen friends, date the younger male teachers at their school, hang out at the club or talk openly about their sex life!
Now, don’t get me wrong, I’d like to think of myself as a sexy, older woman who could pull a young buck or two. I exercise (on occasion) to stay thin (which ain’t working) and wear hip clothes (is the word “hip” still in?). I use slang so that I can seem relevant to my son’s friends (fur real-zol, I’m off da chiz-ain!). On rare occasions I press on some nails and even rare-er I weave on some hair. I do all of this to avoid slipping into the middle age category.
You know, where the protruding belly pouch and wide thighs, the dislike of rap music and all things loud, the constant chattering of “wise” instructions and the uncontrollable nodding off; where the obsessive search for flat shoes and comfortable clothes and the inability to control leakage when you cough, sneeze, laugh, yell or walk; causes your children to run away like you’re a large, red oozing pimple threatening their social life. You, the one who gave them life, is now perceived as threat to their life! Yes, I try to avoid being grouped with the middle agers. So for the sake of maintaining a relationship with my sons and their friends I do what I can to stay relevant, hip, cool and in style.
I stay sexy and flirtatious for the sake of my husband. We’ve been married for 17 years and I can clearly see he’s slipping into the middle life time warp (he wears sneakers with khaki pants. Arrragh!). But he’s mine and even though the kids see him as a wise, old, oozing, red pimple I still see him as my groom. I like the feeling that I get when I make him blush. I love when he becomes tongue-tied because I’ve interrupted our discussion about paying bills with a reminder of how sexy he is. Making him promises to do things that I know we’re both to tired (or stiff) to even attempt, not only makes me feel good but him as well. For the sake of maintaining a relationship with my husband I do what I can to stay hot, sexy and cougar-like.
But for the sake of M-E; for preserving my self-esteem, my spiritual grow, my intellectual stimulation, my psychological development, my mental sanity ; I pursue my PURPOSE. I don’t need the consent of my sons, the approval of a bunch of barely-driving teens or even the admiration my wonderfully, middle-aged husband. To live a life that’s exciting and adventurous I live my God-given purpose.
I would venture to say that most cougar moms are women who feel purposeless and are afraid. They are afraid that life is passing them by. They are afraid that they’ve missed out. They’re afraid that they don’t have a purpose. They’re afraid that they are no longer relevant. They need approval and they are bored with life. Without a purpose, without direction in life or an understanding of their divine value to God they seek validation, excitement, and some sense of control by engaging in taboo behaviors and relationships.
If I wanted to, I could be a cougar mom and pull a couple of young boys, but this God fearing, married, cougar mom of 5, chooses to pursue Purpose and allow IT to generate excitement, adventure and validation of my worth.
Find your purpose moms! Pursue it with passion! Hunt it down. Call it, woo it until it comes. The pursuit alone will awaken your soul, accelerate your spiritual growth, erect your self-esteem, massage your ego and stimulate your mind. Even a fine, sexy young thang with washboard abs, protruding biceps, a cute smile, straight white teeth and a golden, glistening hot bod can’t do ALL of that.
I would love to hear your thoughts. Leave a comment.
